At Holistic Specialists we apply the latest in functional medicine, addressing the underlying causes instead of just treating symptoms so you can get well and stay well without unnecessary drugs or surgery.

We use cutting-edge diagnostic tools to find the problem, and nutritional therapy, herbal medicine, supplements, stress management, detoxification, lifestyle changes, and only in some cases when necessary, we recommend prescription medications to eliminate triggers and restore proper function and balance.

We believe that a functional blood chemistry panel is one of the most efficient and effective screening tools available to us as clinicians. It allows us to quickly assess the function of several of the most important body systems, identify current areas of concern, and detect potential problems that, without intervention, may become significant and even life-threatening problems in the future.

In our clinics, every single patient that walks through the door gets a functional blood chemistry panel. Why? Because most people have either never received a comprehensive evaluation like this, or it has been years or even decades since they have. Early detection of abnormalities enables us as clinician to prevent a condition that would become very difficult to manage if it isn’t diagnosed until much later.

At Holistic Specialists we guide our investigative functional blood chemistry panel base in these four principles:

  1. Functional Blood Chemistry Patterns. Patterns are typically much more important than individual markers. There are some individual markers that can be used to diagnose disease when analyzed independently however, in most cases, you have to evaluate individual blood chemistry markers in the context of other markers in order to determine the presence of a functional imbalance, pathology, or disease.
  2. Medical history and physical examination: A functional blood chemistry panel should always be combined with a thorough medical history including current symptoms and health status, past and present illnesses, diet and lifestyle, medications and supplements, alcohol intake, and a physical examination.
  3. Functional Reference Ranges: The reference ranges that we use to interpret results in functional blood chemistry are often —but not always—different than the reference ranges that are used in conventional medicine and printed on the lab results.
  4. Re-test: It is important to re-test after addressing the imbalances or conditions identified with the comprehensive screening panel. “Test, don’t guess” is another important principle not only of blood chemistry, but of functional medicine in general. If we don’t re-test, we have no way of knowing if the treatment had the desired effect. Symptoms are not reliable indicators of progress in many situations, especially with conditions that are completely asymptomatic.
